Sami Drum 18"
The Sami drum shown is made of maple wood probably one of the best tone woods for drums. With the drum finally assembled it weighs in just under a pound! Since the drum is so light weight you could play for hours without stopping, Now since the drum is lightweight it does not in any way take away from the resonance or sustain of the drum. This drum produces a deep to mid tone (depending on the humidity level that day) with Very good sustain. The skin is made from medium thickness goat skin, a thicker hide can also be applied for a small fee. It is all laced together with thick rawhide. The beater is made from the leg bone of a deer wrapped with deer skin and bound with rope. The depth of the drum shell is around 2 inches deep and length is 18 inches. I prefer not to do the markings on the drum myself as the markings represent a special meaning to the Sami culture and the person in general thus this should be done by the musician, the markings on the drum in the picture are to show what one fully done would look like.
